I believe each of us is designed to do something that matters. I also believe when you hear those words, some of you may roll your eyes or otherwise balk at the idea you are destined to do something important.
But, here’s the thing.
Something important doesn’t necessarily translate into something big.
Something important often involves the smallest gestures. Doing something that matters isn’t about grand gestures as much as it is about meeting people where they are. It’s that kind word, it’s the smile at the cashier, it’s holding the door for someone you don’t know.
And it’s also about parenting well.
I am a writer and a dreamer and I am also a stay-at-home homeschooling mama to an autistic 13 year old (my 11 year old still attends the small public charter school right now). Staying at home as a mom doesn’t preclude me from important work. In fact, I’d argue that some of the most important work I do is as a mama, walking through these years with my girls, empowering them and encouraging them.
The next time you find yourself telling yourself you aren’t doing anything worthwhile, I want you to stop yourself. I want you to reframe your thinking. I want you to pause and…
