Inspired to Create
How my daughter making popcorn inspired me to show up
Setting and working on goals can be messy and incredibly challenging. Balancing life and its demands with that thing (or things) we say we want to do, to create, isn’t easy.
I find it helpful to seek out inspiration and encouragement in favorite songs, through conversations with those who support my vision, or through stories on screen or in books.
But nothing is as much of an inspiration as my autistic 11-year-old. Today, I’m sharing one of her accomplishments with you to encourage and remind you that you can do hard things. You can make your goals happen. You were designed to be creative and you can do something amazing. You can bring your vision to life.
Here’s why I believe that.
Our girl is afraid of fire, in all its forms, including candles. She’s not just a little bit afraid of fire, she is phobic and has at times feared her bed might catch fire in the middle of the night. We do our best to minimize her exposure to candles and fire pits and cozy fires in the winter and we’re okay with that.
Still, the world does not always accommodate her anxiety, just like the world will not always help pave the way for you and your vision and creativity. But that doesn’t mean you won’t succeed.
