Every Day, Opportunity

Never mind your circumstances, focus on your perspective

I remember hearing the phrase when I was younger — day after day after day. If the words were but part of a story, if they were but isolated upon the page, they would carry a sense of neutrality at worst and a sense of promise at best.

But to hear them spoken. Almost every time I hear them, they carry a sense of sadness, a sense of resignation, a sense of wanting something more.

There is no hope in the words as they enter the space around us: It’s the same thing day after day after day.

As I have gotten older (I just celebrated my 53rd trip around the sun), I’ve come to realize that we have the ability to infuse our words, our days, our lives with power based on our perspective.

So what power will we give them? I grew up listening to the resignation those words can carry. But what about me? What do I want those words to mean to me and what would I have them reflect of my life?

If I choose, I can take those words as a gift. I can speak them and live them out as part of my journey through this life — my life.

Perspective. That’s what it comes down to.
